Outline builds AI agents that automate financial planning and analysis (FP&A) for mid-market companies, replacing the slow, manual, spreadsheet-driven workflows that finance teams rely on today. As one of the first engineers at a pre-seed startup, you will help design and build the core product end to end and shape the engineering culture as the team grows.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and ship core product features across the stack, from data ingestion and modeling to the agentic workflows that power FP&A automation.
- Build and orchestrate AI agents that handle forecasting, variance analysis, reporting and other finance workflows reliably and accurately.
- Integrate with the accounting, ERP and data systems that mid-market finance teams use as sources of truth.
- Own features end to end, from prototype to production, with a high bar for quality and speed.
- Help establish engineering practices, tooling and architecture decisions as a founding member of the team.
- Work directly with founders and early customers to turn real FP&A pain points into product.
What we’re looking for
- Strong full-stack or backend engineering experience, ideally with early-stage or 0-to-1 product building.
- Experience building with LLMs and AI agents, or strong interest and ability to ramp quickly.
- Comfort with ambiguity, ownership and a fast iteration loop in a small team.
- Bonus: exposure to fintech, accounting/ERP data, or financial modeling and FP&A workflows.
- A builder’s mindset, high autonomy, and excitement about defining a product and a company from the ground up.
